Nugent double clinches Burnley win over Sunderland

London: On-loan Burnley striker David Nugent scored a double on his home debut on Saturday to clinch a 3-1 victory over Sunderland in the Premier League.

Nugent, who joined from Portsmouth on a six-month deal at the start of the month, found the net twice in the second half after coming off the bench.

"It's important to show people at Portsmouth what they are missing," the one-time England international said.

Graham Alexander had put Burnley ahead from the penalty spot in the 13th minute after Anton Ferdinand tripped Wade Elliott. The 37-year-old Alexander has now scored 67 of 72 career penalties.

Darren Bent gave Sunderland a lifeline with a 39th-minute equalizer, but Nugent found the net in the 67th and 86th to give Burnley a third win since being promoted.
