The BCCI on Saturday rejected former IPL chairman Lalit Modi's demand to re-constitute the disciplinary committee probing charges of financial irregularities against him and retained the same three member panel which has been hearing the case at its Special General Meeting here.
The Cricket Board stuck to its guns and formally approved the three-member disciplinary committee of Arun Jaitley, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chirayu Amin.
"Today's agenda was very limited. The committee ratified the hearings of the disciplinary committee and the panel members will continue," BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla told reporters after the meeting.
The SGM was held after Modi's counsel Mehmood Abdi pointed out last month that the panel did not have the BCCI General Body's mandate.
Abdi said that BCCI has forgotten to re-constitute the Committee for the year 2010-2011 at its AGM held on September 29. This claim was refuted on Saturday by a member of an affiliated unit who said only the constitution of the panel had not been minuted.
"The committee had already got the BCCI's approval at the Annual General Meeting but it was not recorded in the minutes of the meeting," the member said after the meeting.
Shukla said no discussion was held at the SGM regarding court cases filed by IPL franchises Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab against the termination of their contracts by BCCI.
"Other things were not on the agenda," he maintained, adding that the disciplinary committee formed today will deal with proceedings pertaining only to Modi.
The panel's retention by the BCCI comes in the wake of Modi's camp consistently opposing the nomination of Amin and Jaitley, both members of the IPL Governing Council too when it was headed by Modi, citing bias.
Meanwhile, the BCCI's Working Committee meeting is scheduled to be held here on December 18, it was learnt.
