Plea seeks grace marks for student in 'tough' mathematics paper

Madurai: A PIL seeking a high-level committee to provide grace marks to students in Plus Two mathematics paper which proved to be tough was filed today in Madras High Court bench in Madurai.

The petition contended that the question paper was not set according to the Blue Print provided by the Book Committee and wanted the Government to constitute the committee comprising senior Post Graduate Mathematics teachers to take necessary action for providing grace marks.

Justice Chitra Venkatraman and Justice S.Vimala ordered notice to the officials including, the director of Government Examinations, and asked the Government advocate to get instructions in view of the urgency of the situation, and said orders would be issued tomorrow.

Petitioner KR Ramalingam submitted as per the Blue Print, the questions in Part-A, B, and C should test the knowledge, understanding, application and skill of the students but contrary to it most of the questions tested only the skill.

The students had a legitimate expectation that the question paper would be set as per the blue print.

The petitioner pointed out that one student was so frustrated by the question paper that he attempted suicide while a girl ended her life.
