Holding the three responsible for the woman's death on February 27, 2010 due to harassment and ill treatment to extract dowry, Judge Meena Sathish said the charges against the accused had been proved by evidence.

The woman had spoken to her mother and brother explaining the situation moments before her death, the Judge said.

Besides the 10-year imprisonment, the judge also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each on the convicts.

According to the prosecution case, the woman and her husband were working in software firms in Chennai and had married on August 30, 2009.

Her parents had allegedly already given 20 gold coins and Rs one lakh in cash, the prosecution said, adding, that the woman even had a miscarriage due to the harassment and ill treatment.
