Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today claimed that the UDF government had achieved success in providing e-services to people at a faster pace than previous governments.

Speaking after inaugurating the e-governance applications of local self-governments here, he said the government initiative was to convert Kerala into a digital state.

"If there is a need to lighten the procedures to use new technical features, steps will be taken to resolve the same," he said.

Taking a dig at the CPI(M)-led LDF Opposition, which had opposed introduction of computers in the 1990s, he said the objection from certain quarters against computers had resulted in the state lagging behind in Information Technology sector.

"Karnataka achieved a lot in the meantime in this field.

They are way ahead of Kerala in the revenue created out of computer based earnings. The government's aim is to correct this situation," he said.

State Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayat M K Muneer was also present at the inauguration.
