Bangalore:
Karnataka Government today announced it will develop the 49 km Hunsur-Kutta road to facilitate uninterrupted movement of vehicles, including goods vehicles from its border into Kerala.
The decision to develop the stretch at a cost of Rs 49 crore was approved at today's cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda in the wake of a ban on movement of vehicles at night at Bandipur Tiger Reserve area via Gundlupet.
The decision fulfils a long felt demand by Kerala, which has been pressing for an alternative route to facilitate movement of vehicles at night from Karnataka, hit by night traffic ban imposed by the High Court to protect animals in Bandipur forest area.
Traffic on Sultanbatteri on National Highway 212 near Gundlupet has been suspended for more than a year.
Recently Chief Ministers of both states had held discussions on the issue.
