Akshay Jadhao has launched education and skills courses in a bid to improve future prospects of hundreds of young people.
An alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, has won the prestigious Queen's Young Leaders Award for his work in rural parts of the country and Nigeria for the upliftment of underprivileged students and tribal cooperatives.
Akshay Jadhao, who had worked in multiple organisations across the world, bagged the award given by The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, Comic Relief and The Royal Commonwealth Society, an IIM-K press release said today.
Grown up in the rural farming region of Vidarbha, where transport, basic education and access to the internet were not readily available and unemployment amongst the young was rife, Mr Jadhao launched education and skills courses in a bid to improve the job opportunities and future prospects of hundreds of young people, IIM-K Director Prof Kulbhushan Balooni said.
The award aims to recognise exceptional people in the age group of 18-29 who are taking the lead in their communities and using their skills to transform lives.
Winners will receive a unique package of training, mentoring and networking, including a one-week residential programme in the UK during which they will collect their Award from the Queen, he added.
