After Businessman Drove Hummer Into Guard, He's Fighting for Life

The injured guard, Chandrabose, is on life support at a local hospital.

Thrissur:

A security guard who was run into with an Hummer by an enraged businessman in Kerala is in critical condition in a hospital in Thrissur, nearly 300 km from the capital of Thiruvananthapuram. Amid public outrage, Chief Minister Oomen Chandy said that the government will cover all medical costs of the injured man, Chandrabose, and pledged, "The Police will not be lenient and strictest punishment shall be ensured in accordance to law."

The injured guard, Chandrabose, is on life support at a local hospital.  The 47-year-old's mother breaks down as she discusses the horrific action that has left her son with multiple fractures.

"That man should be punished in a such a way that no other mother has to see such a day," she says.

The businessman, Muhammed Nisham, has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder. He has been sent to 14 days judicial custody.

Yesterday Mr Nisham ran his Hummer into the guard to pin him against a wall, then emerged from the car and beat his victim repeatedly with an iron rod till others intervened.  He was reportedly furious that the guard took too long to allow his car into the gated community where he lives.

Mr Nisham owns a vast beedi and tobacco company.

"When the guard tried to flee, the businessman chased him with his Hummer and rammed into him, pinning him to the wall. Later he drove the bleeding guard a km away, dragged him out and beat him up again in a cruel manner," said a police officer named Biju Kumar who is handling the investigation.

Mr Nishram has faced 10 police cases, and most of them were reportedly settled out of court, police said.

In 2013, Mr Nisham ran into trouble with the police for allowing his 9-year-old son to drive his Ferrari in their neighbourhood. The video was uploaded on YouTube, and created a huge controversy. He is also accused of allegedly locking up a woman constable in his car.
