Andhra Pradesh seeks troop carrier helicopter, pilotless aircraft

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Government has sought from the Centre a troop carrier helicopter and a pilotless aircraft for the state.

Andhra Pradesh, one of the states affected by Naxalism, made a request to this effect at the Chief Ministers' conference on internal security that was held in New Delhi on Monday.

"Stationing of a troop carrier helicopter at Visakhapatnam for facilitating swift air-borne operations in Andhra-Orissa border may be considered and approved immediately," according to a release issued by the Director General of Police here today.

Andhra Pradesh, which shares borders with Naxal-hit states like Orissa, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, has also demanded placing of a pilotless aircraft under the control of NTRO (National Technical Research Organisation) at Rajahmundry airport for satellite imagery of movements of extremists in thick jungles, it said.

The state's experience in tackling left-wing extremism and terrorism were also shared at the conference, the release added.
