14-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Sexually Abused by MIM Leader in Andhra Pradesh

Anantpur: A leader of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, a political party based in Andhra Pradesh, has been accused of allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in the state's Anantpur district

The girl, a student of class 10, approached the Anantpur police on Monday and filed a complaint. She said she had been allegedly sexually abused and threatened by MIM leader CMD Ilyas for the last three months.

The girl said she met Mr Ilyas when the MIM leader reportedly helped her out when another boy was harassing her.

Mr Ilyas allegedly started luring her with gifts, including a bicycle, said the girl.

He would allegedly summon her to an acquaintance's residence, where he would abuse her, said the girl.

Mr Ilyas allegedly threatened to kill the girl's parents and her sister, who is studying in Hyderabad, if she told anyone about what was going on. Mr Ilyas also allegedly threatened to make videos of her - that he had shot on his cell phone - public.

The girl, a student of a government school, comes from an extremely poor family, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Devadanam.

The police have registered a case under the Nirbhaya Act, and the Protection of Children against Sexual Abuse Act, and Section 376 (II) F, pertaining to sexual assault against a minor girl.

MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi told NDTV that he condemned the criminal offence in the strongest terms. Mr Owaisi demanded that the police immediately arrest Mr Ilyas and take stringent action.

"There is no question of protecting him even if he is from our party. We condemn this offence against a minor girl in the strongest terms," said Mr Owaisi.

Mr Ilyas, who reportedly contested the recent assembly elections, is missing, said the police.
