Wimbledon 2012: Day 9 Highlights

The ninth day saw the men battle it out for the last four spots. There was also a brush with royalty and some former legends in the crowd. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic went through while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Andy Murray also booked their slots in the semis. (All Photos AFP)

It was a day of Royalty at the All England Club as Prince William and his wife Kate arrived at the centre court to watch the quarter finals. Later Roger Federer also admitted that the royals inspired him. "I really actually do enjoy seeing legends coming out, following today's tennis. Royals coming out, it's inspiring, too, in some ways, believe it or not," Federer explained.

1992 Wimbledon winner Andre Agassi was also present with his wife, seven time Wimbledon Champion, Steffi Graf.

Roger Federer came up against Mikhail Youzhny in his quarter final match and Fedex was out to ensure that nothing would stop him from making the last four.

Fedex made light work of Mikhail to beat him in straight sets winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

Novak Djokovic's serve was broken early in the first set by Florian Mayer and it seemed the defending champion would have a tough match on his hands.

But the Serb rallied back to take the first set and went on to win the next two, his German opponent having no answer to his level of tennis. Djokovic won 6-4, 6-1, 6-4.

Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga repeated his feat of last year when he progressed to the semi final after a win over Philipp Kohlschreiber. It was a hard earned win as the German took two of the sets into the tie-breaker.

Tsonga ultimately prevailed over Kohlschreiber to win the match 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.

Andy Murray took on David Ferrer for a place in the semi-finals. In a thriller of a match, three of the four sets went into a tie-breaker. Ferrer had the advantage when he won the first set and Murray looked visibly under pressure.

Ferrer however could not hold on to his advantage as Murray took the next three sets of which two he won in the tie-breaker, this after losing the first in the same situation. The Brit earned his semi-final spot beating the Spaniard 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 7-6.
