Serena Williams had a tough game against Jie Zheng losing the first set in the tie-breaker. However she came back to claim the next two sets and seal her place in the last 16 beating the Chinese 6-7, 6-2, 9-7.
Yaroslava Shvedova won a set against Sara Errani without conceding a single point and though the Italian fought hard in the next set Shvedova ultimately triumphed 6-0, 6-4.
Kei Nishikori could not keep the flag high for Japan as his Wimbledon dream came to an end at the hands of Juan Martin Del Potro who took the match 6-3, 7-6, 6-1.
Andy Roddick had a convincing first set win over David Ferrer but the Spaniard showed his fighting spirit by taking the next three sets and the match 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-3.
