  • Maria Sharapova capitalised on her form after winning the French Open by easily sidestepping Anastasia Rodionova in the first round in a match that certainly did not live up to being a contest. (AP Photo)
  • The defending champion wasted no time in cleaning up his act as Novak Djokovic saw off former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero in straight sets. It was a clinical display from the 'Djoker' as he looked to make up for his loss to Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open earlier this year. (AP Photo)
  • Wimbledon's favourite son returned home once again. Roger Federer showing that form is temporary but class is permanent as he effortlessly defeated Albert Ramos 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. The Spaniard had no answer to the genius and Fedex was showing signs of what may follow later in the tournament. (AP Photo)
  • It was a shock exit for Venus Williams who has never lost in the first round since 1997. This was her second consecutive first round exit this year after she lost to Elena Vesnina. She had also been eliminated in the first round of the French Open. (AP Photo)
  • China's Li Na took the express route into the second round at Wimbledon with an emphatic 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan. She displayed her skill and gave a clear indication that she was a top contender for the title this year. (AP Photo)
  • David Nalbandian may have controlled his temper this time but that could not stop him from losing the match as he fell to Janko Tipsarevic in the first round. Things not going well for the Argentine as he failed to make an impression on grass. (AP Photo)
  • Playing her last Wimbledon Kim Clijsters showed no sign of nerves as she got past her first round opponent with ease. Jelena Jankovic had no chance as Clijsters played a different level of tennis. If this is a sign of things to come from the Belgian then expect some fireworks in this Wimbledon. (AP Photo)
