Kotla Test, Day 2: India vs Australia

Pragyan Ojha became the third quickest Indian bowler to 100 wickets in Test matches with Pattinson's scalp while R Ashwin completed his 9th five-wicket haul in Tests. Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay impressed with the bat yet again but Nathan Lyon ensured Australia remained in contention.

  • Peter Siddle completed his first half-century in Tests early on Day 2 but was dismissed soon after for a well made 51. Australia though, what was proven later in the day, had already scored what looked a decent total on the ever crumbling wicket. (BCCI Image)
  • R Ashwin, being congratulated here by teammates, took his ninth five-wicket haul in Tests even as Pragyan Ojha too created history of sorts with his 100th wicket when he removed James Pattinson. (BCCI Image)
  • India began their innings on a positive note as Cheteshwar Pujara was sent in as the opener alongside Murali Vijay. The pair added 108. Pujara got a mini scare when he was hit by a Pattinson short ball on the knuckles but escaped without much damage. (BCCI Image)
  • Mitchell Johnson, playing the test in place of injured Starc, was impressive to start with, clocking well over 145 kms/hr. He did go for a few runs though. (BCCI Image)
  • Murali Vijay (57) and Pujara (52) notched up half-centuries as India ran ahead with the game. The celebration for the home side did not last long after that though as Aussie bowlers finally found their strides. (BCCI Image)
  • Nathan Lyon had India in a web of spin as the Delhi pitch suited his bowling. He accounted for Pujara, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and debutant Rahane as India tumbled. (BCCI Image)
  • Sachin Tendulkar came in to a great round of applause as always but never looked comfortable on the crease from the beginning, especially to the impressive Lyon. He survived a huge lbw appeal off the same bowler (It definitely was out), he skipped, hopped and jumped at the crease and finally was removed by Lyon lbw. Indian batting looked fragile, for once. • James Pattinson then got rid of dangerous looking MS Dhoni via a soft dismissal while playing a short arm jab off the backfoot. India was reduced to 210/6 then, still adrift of Australia's total by 52 runs. (BCCI Image)
  • Ravindra Jadeja registered his highest Test score of 43, surpassing the 16 against Australia at Chennai last month. (BCCI Image)
  • It was a day of several sterling performances, no one outstanding but many players playing key roles in leaving the match poised at a razor's edge. (BCCI Image)
