  • From bottom of the table in the first season to being champions in the second, Deccan Chargers know what it takes to come back from the wilderness. With a seventh place finish the last season, the onus will be on them to prove their credentials. There character and resolve is what their opponents will look out for in the fifth edition of the IPL.
  • A dangerous proposition at the top, Kumar Sangakkara is a quick scorer who doesn't take many risks. His range of shots and gifted timing allow him to score at will and when he is in form, the bowling attack have their hands full.
  • A stylish batsman from the West Indies, Darren Bravo loves to have a go at the bowling whatever be the format of the game. He is the most promising and consistent batsman in a maturing West Indies line-up. Bravo's style of play has drawn comparisons with none other than Brian Lara.
  • Shikhar Dhawan is always looking for big scores and if he can capitalise on his good starts, both the team and he himself will benefit. He had an excellent last season making 400 runs in 14 games with a highest of 95 against the Kings XI Punjab.
  • An unkown entity in IPL, Daniel Harris' performance in the 2011 Champions League T20 was a clear indication of his potential. His 108 not out against Bangalore was the highlight of the tournament. An average of 69 and a strike-rate of 162 in CLT20 2011 is ample evidence of how devastating he can be.
  • He is a quick scorer, a brilliant fielder and a decent bowling option - JP Duminy is a complete package when in form. If he fires in all three departments the Chargers will get a much-needed boost.
  • Bharat Chipli shone last season with his quickfire unbeaten 61 against Bangalore. He is one of the power hitters in the Chargers side and when on fire he can devastate the opposition.
  • Sunny Sohal is a natural talent who came good in IPL 4, hitting two fifties. He provides solidity in the middle and can also help boost the run-rate.
  • Parthiv Patel had a lean run with the Kochi Tuskers Kerala last season. His team has changed and he will hope so has his fortune. With Kumar Sangakkara expected to don the gloves, Parthiv could play purely as a batsman unless Sanga decides to not do wicketkeeping duties.
  • This all-rounder from Australia picked up 11 wickets last season and also proved more than useful with the bat. Daniel Christian has recently been a regular member of Australia's one-day side and has been in form.
  • He is not called the Steyn gun for nothing. Dale Steyn is the key to getting early wickets. With his bursts of pace and deadly accuracy, he will be a cause of worry to the opposing batsmen.
  • The leggie picked up 19 wickets last season and 17 the season before that. In a format considered a bowler's graveyard, he has been highly successful. His hunger for wickets is what the Chargers will be banking on this time as well.
