First Test, Day 5: Team India beat England, take first step towards revenge

Man of the match Cheteshwar Pujara and Pragyan Ojha were instrumental in getting India the all important victory in the first Test match against England in Ahmedabad. Probably, the MoM award should have either gone to Ojha or been shared but it was a win-win for India. (Photo credit: BCCI)

The final day started on a sedate note with Matt Prior and Alastair Cook blocking balls at will. Seemingly, there was not much help for the bowlers and large parts of the first hour would have been pedestrian cricket if not for Zaheer Khan. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Zaheer Khan bowled with guile and some pace to keep the batsmen honest. He did not get a wicket to start with but was persistent enough. This definitely augurs well for the hosts while is an alarming bell for the visitors. (Photo credit: BCCI)

It was Pragyan Ojha yet again who started the slide. Sachin Tendulkar had some words of wisdom for the bowler and immediately he altered his length a tad bit. India had got what they wanted and without giving away too many runs. Blood was oozing from the open wound and Tigers smelt it. Next to go was captain Cook, again to a delivery short of a length and this time keeping low. A false shot and skipper was bowled all ends up. (Photo credit: BCCI)

It then was Umesh Yadav's turn to grab an important breakthrough, that of Stuart Broad. Remember, Broad had scored 182 runs when India toured England and was not to be taken lightly. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Umesh Yadav bowled with great heart and pace throughout the game, and was well rewarded. In fact, he was the fastest bowler from both the teams.

India did not have one of their regular openers, Gautam Gambhir, due to personal issues but Virender Sehwag had an able partner in Cheteshwar Pujara. Never did the team look in any trouble and a pacy opening by Pujara and Viru meant all nerves vanished. (Photo credit: BCCI)

It was a canter in the end for India as they romped home to a win by 9 wickets. The Men in Blue(White) now have a massive advantage going into the second Test match at Mumbai but England will take heart from their performance in the second innings. (Photo credit: BCCI)
