A Delhi fast track court has convicted the former Haryana cadre IPS officer Ravikant Sharma and three others in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case on Tuesday.
Suspended IPS officer RK Sharma has decided to challenge his conviction in the nine-year-old Shivani Bhatnagar murder in the Delhi High Court.
Shivani, a reporter with the Indian Express was found murdered in her flat in East Delhi nine years ago.
According to police, Shivani and Sharma had a close relationship and she was putting pressure on him to marry her.
Out of 209 witnesses 51 had turned hostile in the case.
The quantum of sentence, which may range from life term to death penalty, will be pronounced on March 20.

A fast track city court, while convicting Sharma and three others for murder on Tuesday, held the Haryana cadre IPS officer, who has been in jail for over five years, as the main conspirator in the January 23, 1999 murder of the Indian Express journalist.
After the judgement, the convicted Haryana cadre IPS officer appeared composed and was heard saying it does not matter to a relative.
