Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Visit to Mauritius

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mauritius today, as part of his tour of three Indian Ocean islands.

He was received at the Sir Seewoosagar Ramgoolam Airport by Mauritius Prime Minister Anerood Jugnauth.

He also offered prayers at the Talao Ganga Temple, which is considered by locals to be as holy as the River Ganga.

He recalled his own Ganga connection while there, that he represented the Varanasi Constituency in the Lok Sabha.

Mr Modi then visited the Appravasi Ghat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Indian labourers were quarantined on arrival over a century ago.

He then made an entry in the visitor's book at the Appravasi Ghat.

PM Modi then addressed the Mauritius National Assembly, where he called for increased cooperation in multiple fields.

He then took part in the commissioning of the MCGS Barracuda, an off-shore patrol vessel built for the Mauritius Coast Guard by an Indian shipyard.
