Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi started his day with a visit to Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, early in the morning today. He later tweeted: "On my way to Atal ji's residence to seek his blessings."

Mr Modi, 63, was sworn in as Prime Minister this evening at Rashtrapati Bhawan. His party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won a historic mandate and secured 282 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections.
