A major fire broke out in a slum near the Bandra railway station in Mumbai on Friday evening.

A major fire broke out at a slum near the Bandra railway station in Mumbai on Friday evening. It took 26 fire engines and 10 water tankers over three hours to bring the fire under control.

No casualties were reported. However, at least nine people were injured. They were immediately rushed to the Bhabha Hospital. Eyewitnesses claim the loss of property would be huge.

The blaze was reported from the Garibnagar area in Bandra East, fire brigade sources said. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.

Train services were also affected due to the blaze, and the Harbour line was shut down as a precaution. However, trains on the Western lines were not affected.

At the Bandra station, a slab of the railway overhead bridge also collapsed.

Rubina, one of the stars in Danny Boyle's 2008 Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, stays in the Garib Nagar area. Her family is reportedly safe and has been evacuated from the hutment.
