ViewSonic ViewPhone 3: Hands on

ViewSonic recently announced their all-new dual-SIM Android smartphone,the ViewPhone 3 in India.

The device does feel light at 123 grams and is quite comfortable to hold.

The top of the phone houses the standard 3.5mm headphones jack.

Apart from Google Play, ViewSonic also has its own app store called ViewApps. Unfortunately it is accessible only in Taiwan.

The sides of smartphone are pretty clean apart from the volume rocker on the right and the USB-cum-charging port on the left.

The Micro-USB port rests on the left side and doubles up for charging and data transfers.

ViewSonic ViewPhone 3 also comes with 512MB RAM and 512MB of internal memory with expansion support via microSD card.

ViewSonic has included its own 3D UI in the smartphone.

A rotating carousel mode accessible via the ViewScene 3D option allows you to easily switch between home screens.

Apart from the standard Google apps (Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google+, etc.), Flickr and the stock music and video players, there aren't many pre-installed apps on the device.

The smartphone features a 3.5 inch 480x320p resolution display and comes with 800MHz processor on-board.

The ViewPhone 3 sports a sturdy build with a rubberised finish that gives it a good grip.

The smartphone comes with a 5MP rear camera, but there is no secondary camera on the device.

The audio quality of the device is better on the speakers than with the headphones provided in the box.

The ViewPhone 3 works well on Wi-Fi connectivity front and the browsing experience was hiccup-free.

The front looks clean with the conventional Android Back, Menu, Home and Search capacitive buttons at the bottom

ViewPhone 3 currently runs on Android 2.3, with no confirmation for the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

The dual-SIM feature remains restricted to dual standby with just one SIM active during the call.

Casual Android games like Angry Birds Space and Fruit Ninja run pretty smoothly with no lag or crashes.

The device comes with a standard 1500mAh Li-ion battery capable of lasting anywhere between 6 -7 hours before it completely drains out.

The back plastic panel comes off easily to reveal the battery which needs to be removed to access the SIM and microSD card slots.

The company has priced the handset at Rs. 9,990 which will be available at Reliance Digital outlets.
