Most searched-for politicians in India

Politics always interests the people and when people go online they also search for info on the politicians. Some politicians are active on the net, while most are not. Google's annual Zeitgeist list for India tells us who are the 10 most searched-for amongst the political class.

10. Maneka Gandhi: With her environmental causes and a son who manages to stir up controversy Maneka Gandhi is still one of the 'most seeked' politicians on Google search.

9. Rajesh Pilot: Even after his death in a road accident nine years ago, Rajesh Pilot invokes interest amongst the online community.

8. Sonia Gandhi: She might not hold any ministerial posts but is the most powerful woman in the country today.

7. Barack Obama: The most powerful man on the planet would obviously also rank somewhere on the most searched list in most countries.

6. Mayawati: She hold the reigns of the most populous state of India and her politics (and the controversies associated with it) always generates a fair amount of interest.

5. P Chidambaram: In these troubled times the role of the home minister becomes all the more important and people are obviously interested to know what the minister in charge of home affairs is up to.

4. Sarah Palin: Indians seem to prefer the former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin over US President Barack Obama.

3. Sachin Pilot: While his father still makes his presence felt long after his demise, young parliamentarian Sachin Pilot is definitely popular amongst Indians online.

2. Indira Gandhi: 2009 marked the 25th anniversary of Indira Gandhi's assassination and Indians logged on to the internet to know more about the former prime minister.

1. Rahul Gandhi: Rahul Gandhi occupying the top spot in the list of most searched politicians in India doesn't come as any surprise. What is surprising, though, is that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh finds no mention on Google's list.
