Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: Hollywood super couple called it quits this year, seven years after Tom Cruise made a declaration of love to Katie Holmes by jumped on Oprah Winfrey's couch. Tom claimed to have been blindsided by wife of five years Katie who filed for divorce on June 29, 2012 citing “irreconciliable differences.” Katie reportedly felt life with controlling Tom was turning her into a “robot” and that the relationship was becoming “too much.”
Tom Cruise and Katie married in 2006. They have a six year old daughter together, Suri, who is photographed and written about as much as her famous parents. Despite reports of Tom preparing to snap ties with Scientology in the hope of winning Katie back, the divorce was finalized on July 10, 2012.
Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis:
Former bad boy Johnny's 14 year relationship with French actress Vanessa ended in June 19, 2012 after months of break up rumours. There were rumours of a split last year as well when photographs surfaced of Johnny kissing his publicist Robin Baum. At the time Vaneesa's representative dismissed the rumours and their split as a "bunch of lies”.
Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, parents to two children, reportedly had "blazing arguments" before they split. Johnny Depp is now reportedly dating his The Rum Diary co-star Amber Heard.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson:
The fairy tale romance between Twilight couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart headed towards unhappily-ever-after after a cheating scandal in which Kristen was photographed in a steamy clinch with her married Snow White and The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.
Kristen issued a groveling apology to boyfriend of four years Rob saying "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
A humiliated Rob moved out of the Los Angeles home he shared with Kristen after a tearful showdown. The couple have now reportedly reunited and Kristen is working hard to regain lost ground. They will, however, spend Christmas apart after a a harrowing Thanksgiving spent with Rob's family.
Deepika Padukone and Sidhartha Mallya:
Deepika and Sidharth's two year relationship came to an end in February this year. The couple, who had sealed their love with a very public kiss at an IPL cricket match last year, broke up very quietly. Deepika's new-found closeness to ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor on the sets of their new film was rumoured to have been a reason behind the split. But both Deepika and Sid remain tight-lipped.
Heidi Klum and Seal:
The supermodel and her singer husband broke up after six years of togetherness, a move that came as a shock to their fans. The couple, known for renewing their wedding vows every year, separated in January. Heidi filed for divorce in April. They have four children together. Heidi is now dating her bodyguard Martin Kirsten.
Nayanthara - Prabhu Deva:
Southern actress Nayanthara and choreographer-turned-director Prabhu Deva began dating three years ago. The wedding that was reportedly planned for this year never took place. Instead, the couple called it quits in January. The Nayanthara-Prabhu Deva affair made headlines because Prabhu Deva was still married to wife of 15 years, Ramlath, who threatened to go on hunger strike if her husband married Nayanthara. Several women's organizations conducted protests against Nayanthara for bringing disrepute to Tamil culture. Prabhu Deva recently said in an interview that he called the relationship off for the sake of his children.
Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber:
The teen stars reportedly split in November this year because their "crazy schedules" didn't allow them to spend much time together. But the relationship has been on again and off again ever since. The two have been dating for around a year and a half and while Disney actress Selena has maintained her squeaky clean image, Justin has been mired in controversy, including being accused of being the father of a fan's child.
Russell Crowe and Danielle Spencer:
The Gladiator star dated Australian singer Danielle on and off since 1989 till finally marrying her in 2003. Nine years and two sons later, they announced their separation in October 2012.
Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz:
Former Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria began dating Penelope Cruz's younger brother after she broke up with husband of four years Tony parker. Eva and Eduardo dated for sixteen months, breaking up briefly in March and then splitting for good in June.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Erin Heatherton:
Ladies' man Leo seems destined to be a serial breaker of famous hearts. After high profile and failed romances with supermodels Gisele Bundchen, Bar Refaeli and actress Blake Lively, Leo began dating Victoria's Secret angel Erin Heatherton in December 2011.
