Patna: The Bihar Police today arrested five persons and busted a gang involved in highway rape, robberies and cattle theft in Patna district.

Five pistols, several rounds of ammunition, two SUVs and a motorcycle have been recovered from them.

The dreaded gang abducted women and girls who came out to relieve themselves in the open, took them to a deserted place and raped them at gunpoint, the police said.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said, "Recently the gang had raped a woman in Naubatpur area of Patna district. They usually threatened the women to silence saying if they divulged anything about the incident, they would be lifted from their residences and killed."

The Patna SSP said the gang specialised in cattle theft and robbing vehicles moving on the highways across the district.

"We got intelligence inputs about the movement of the gang and discovered that it was again planning to commit some crime on the route to Naubatpur. We formed a special team to nab them. They dressed as villagers and started moving in the area on a tractor," said Maharaj.

"The gang was lying in ambush at a deserted place and attacked the tractor thinking it was being driven by some villagers. They were immediately overpowered and arrested," he added.

The SSP also said the gang used to sell stolen cattle and robbed goods in West Bengal, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.
