The devastating Nagarhole forest fire

The damage to Nagarahole National Park, one of the most important tiger habitats in the country, is still being assessed a week after a devastating fire broke out there. Larger mammals would have survived, but young birds, snakes and insects - as well as the vegetation itself - were destroyed. At least 600 hectares was burnt and will take a long time to recover.
