Coimbatore to Ink Memorandum of Understanding with German City

Coimbatore:

Coimbatore would become the tenth city in the world to ink a Memorandum of Understanding with Esslingen am Necakr city in Germany to strengthen ties in different fields, a top official said today.

Jurgen Zieger, Mayor of Esslingen am Neckar, said they had already signed MoUs with nine major cities across the world, of which eight are from Europe and one in the US.

"Coimbatore will be the 10th one to join the list once the MoU is officially signed," he said.

He was speaking after watching the proceedings of the council, which among others, resolved to enter into an MoU with Esslingen Am Neckar to strengthen ties in various fields.

Mayor Rajkumar said they were awaiting the state government nod to sign the MoU, by which both cities could share activities in the fields of health, education and other local bodies.

He said a student exchange initiative would be kick started in a few months, under which students from Corporation schools here would be sent to Germany to share learning experience with their counterparts in that country.

Students from Esslingen am Neckar will also get a chance to spend time with students in Coimbatore as part of the learning experience, he said.

"We are finding a strategy to work together so that it will pave way for development of the cities," he said.

The Corporation initiative was in the wake of the positive learning experience of a private school with students from Esslingen Am Neckar, he said.
