Around 15,000 new voters enrolled in Puducherry

Puducherry: Voters' strength in the Union Territory of Puducherry with a total of 30 assembly constituencies has increased by 15,043.

A press release from the Department of elections said a special summary revision of electoral rolls 2012 was done as per the directives of the Election Commission from October 17
to Nov 1, 2011 keeping Jan 1, 2012 as the qualifying date.

It said the voters strength is 8,25,058 with the addition of 15,043 new voters. Women outnumber male counterparts in all 30 constituencies.
  
While there are 3,97,094 men voters, women voters number4,27,957, there are seven voters coming under the category of 'others'
  
The department also offers an opportunity for voters in the age group of 18-19 years who have not enrolled themselves to get their names included by submitting relevant applications at the respective office of the Electoral Registration Officers till January 15, the release said.

Puducherry region has a total of 23 constituencies while Karaikal has five. Mahe and Yanam (enclaves of Puducherry in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh respectively) have one segment each.
