Why This Mumbai Engineer Quit His Job to Become a Taxi Driver
There's no better way to start a Monday morning than with a motivating story that'll get you through the day, probably the week, possibly the month. This story, posted on the Humans of Bombay Facebook page on Sunday, will not only inspire you do better in life but also strengthen your faith in mankind.

"I am 74-years-old, can speak 11 languages, have children who work in private equity firms, and have the qualification to be an advanced engineer," explains a Mumbai resident on Facebook. However, this is not why his story needs to be told.

"My wife had suffered from a miscarriage, when one night she felt a sudden pain in her abdomen. At that time of the night, no cab stopped for us and that process frustrated me," he says on Facebook. So he quit his job as an engineer at Larsen and Toubro - turning his back on a salary of Rs 65,000 a month - to become a taxi driver. "I earn 10,000 rupees a month from general passengers, but my aim is to help those in need at any hour of the day. Whoever sits in my cab gets my card and can contact me even at 3 in the morning with an emergency and I will take them to their destination," he explains.

Whether it was the floods of July 26, 2005 or the 26/11 attack, he has always reached out to anyone who has needed him, something that makes him happier than he has ever been.

The gentleman also explains the highlight of his life has a taxi driver. Read his post in its entirety to know what keeps him going.

We wish more people had as much compassion as this not-so-ordinary taxi driver.
