Transgender Version of the 'My Choice' Video Celebrates the Third Gender

Transgender Version of the 'My Choice' Video Celebrates the Third Gender

On this day last year, in a landmark judgement, the Supreme Court created the 'third gender' status.

A year later, the transgender community is celebrating that judgement.

A video titled 'My Choice - Transgender Version' - similar to the Vogue Empower video that starred Deepika Padukone, was uploaded on YouTube by Teen Pathar yesterday.

However, unlike the Deepika Padukone video, this video has been watched only 2,500 times till now.

In the 2 minute long video, transgenders talk about the hardships that they face. "To live as a man, or a woman, or as a third gender. My choice. To look feminine or to look manly. My choice. To change my gender or to change my name. My choice," they say.

They also talk about the things that weren't their choice - "To be born with the sex I don't conform with wasn't my choice. To be thrown out of my house and be vulnerable on streets wasn't my choice. To be ridiculed, wasn't my choice. To be refused a job despite being qualified wasn't my choice."

The video ends with a message from Abhina Aher, chairperson of the South Asian transgender community: "If you really want to help us, just stop treating us like an outcast. "

Deepika's video created a long, loud debate on whether it was actually empowering.

Several spoof responses were circulated on social media as well. This 'My Choice' video will likely receive a warmer welcome.
