Chilling dashcam footage of a child falling out of a moving minivan on a bustling highway in China's Jiangsu province has made its way online and is being shared on social media.

In what must be among the worst nightmares for parents, the video shows the toddler tumbling out of the vehicle and then chasing it while it's driven away without anyone in the car noticing what just happened.

The footage, captured on February 27 according to the date stamp on the video, shows the kid, believed to be a two-year-old boy, trying to navigate the heavy traffic as the van drives away. The scared child is then rescued by the car recording the footage.

According to reports, the vehicle was being driven by the child's grandfather Yang Defu, who didn't realize his grandson had slipped into the minivan's boot. He explained that the vehicle's rear door had been damaged earlier and was known to randomly fly open.

The video shows the child being safely handed over to him. The good samaritan, identified as a warehouse manager named Du Xiuli, can be heard upbraiding Yang Defu for not even noticing that his grandchild had fallen out of the car. The woman has since been awarded for helping save the child from potential tragedy.

Even though the child was not hurt and is now safe, the video makes for a terrifying watch. Take a look.
