John Oliver is back with a vengeance. Anyone who missed the comedian’s acerbic wit while his popular television show Last Week Tonight was on hiatus will be delighted to see his biting criticism of US President Donald Trump continues. And how. A 20-minute segment from the latest episode of the show focuses solely on Trump’s attempts to forge a more positive relationship with Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin. The segment has earned over 3.5 million views since being posted on YouTube less than 24 hours ago and is also currently trending.

As Oliver shows, with an anything-but-subtle montage of clips, a constant refrain from Trump’s campaign trail, and since his election, has been: "Wouldn’t it be nice if we (the United States) actually got along with Russia?"

Oliver spends the majority of the segment explaining why, for Americans, this would be about as nice as "walking up to a bear and hugging it."

"There is no hard proof yet of direct links between Trump himself and Russia, but he does have a weird, noticeably soft spot for both the country and its leader," Oliver points out. "It is a bit weird that you have been objectively nicer to Vladimir Putin than you have to Meryl Streep, who I am pretty sure is not an infamous autocrat. Although, you know what, now I say it – if she tried it, she’d nail it. The woman is a tour de force." We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Oliver ends his segment with a reworked (remixed?) Russian techno song about Putin, appropriately titled "A Man Like Putin." Because, is there really a better way to get your point across?

"A man like Putin, may seem like he’s strong, but if you think that, know that you’re wrong," the annoyingly catchy song goes.
