How far will you go for the love of your life? A man in Chattisgarh's Bilaspur stole designer sarees for his wife just so she could look her best in a local beauty pageant.
According to
Deccan Chronicle, 26-year-old Pramila Gupta was taking part in a local beauty pageant called "
Sawan Sundari", organised every monsoon in Bilaspur. Naturally, her husband Srikant Gupta wanted her to stand out in the contest. To ensure that, the government-school teacher resorted to stealing expensive sarees from a shop in Bilaspur worth nearly Rs 56,000 as he couldn't afford to buy them, said the cops.
"Gupta admitted he could not afford the sarees, but did not want his wife to feel inferior among other women of the community. He stole the sarees and gifted them to her," Bilaspur SHO Nasar Siddiqui told
Hindustan Times.
The shop owners filed a complaint with the police. While police assessed the CCTV footage, it was a video from the "
Sawan Sundari" contest that explained the mystery of the missing sarees. A member of the audience spotted Pramila Gupta wearing one of the stolen sarees while walking on the ramp and informed the cops, reported
Asianet News. Police then arrested Srikant Gupta, his wife and his cousin, who reportedly helped him steal the sarees.Click for more
