Canadian Mayor Wears Turban, Does The Bhangra In Video Gone Viral

Mayor Dan Curtis and Gurdeep Pandher seemed to have had a lot of fun together.

Remember when that video of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pulling off some neat bhangra moves went viral? Well, Mr Trudeau, you aren't the only Canadian politician who can pull of the awesome moves. Giving him tough competition is Whitehorse Mayor Dan Curtis. A video that shows Mr Curtis, who was both born and raised in Canada, wearing a turban and doing some cool bhangra moves is going crazy viral online. Since being shared by Whitehorse resident Gurdeep Pandher on January 6, the video has collected over 1.1 million views, some 19,000 reactions and more than 23,000 shares on Facebook.

The video not only shows Mr Pandher, an author and dancer, tying the turban for the mayor but Mr Curtis also learning how to wear it in the City Council chambers. The video shows the entire process of wearing a Sikh turban, including making the 'pooni,' which is preparing the cloth before it is tied around the head and putting on a 'fifty,' a head band which keeps the hair in place. The video shows Mr Curtis waiting patiently as Mr Pandher finishes his masterpiece.

Once the turban is secure, both men pull off those bhangra moves we mentioned earlier. "Then, the Mayor asked Gurdeep Pandher to declare Whitehorse a diverse, wonderful and beautiful community," it says on Facebook.

The duo seemed to have had a lot of fun together.

"I'm not that good at busting a move, but (Gurdeep) certainly is, so it was an awful lot of fun," Mr Curtis told The Huffington Post Canada. "I felt like I was having a history lesson in culture and customs. It was quite enlightening. It was quite enjoyable," he added.
