For many women, travelling alone at night can be a scary prospect, what with so many horror stories in circulation. Ranjani Shanker's story may help us feel just a little more confident. Her post on Facebook has been shared by over 1,300 people since last week.

Ms Shanker needed to make a 38 km journey to Kanakpura Road from Bangalore city. She had waited for nearly an hour before an auto rickshaw driver named GhasamfarAli.K agreed to take her.

"When my auto arrived and I got in, he told me that the location I've asked for doesn't allow autos in the suggested route, (highway/toll road) and so we'd have to take a different route," she shares in her Facebook post. Like many people in her situation do, she referred to Google Maps and asked the auto driver to follow the route she chose.

"He said okay, but once I started telling him, he slowed me down to warn me that the route had super low light and checked if I was okay going on that route," she says on her post.

In the meantime, a friend of Ms Shanker's offered to meet her halfway. So she "took the risk and trusted the auto driver" and agreed to continue on the dimly lit route.

"The next 30 mins was an auto ride in complete darkness with a stranger in a city that's not my home, with only my phone to keep me connected and provide me light," she writes.

Mr GhasamfarAli's behavior throughout this ride left her feeling completely overwhelmed with gratitude and respect.
