UN worried over Lanka relief operation
Press Trust of India, Thursday May 28, 2009, United Nations

The overall scale of relief operation in Sri Lanka, where nearly 300,000 people have been displaced by the recent conflict, remains huge, while an action plan for assistance still needs 60 per cent of the requested funding, the UN humanitarian wing has said.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OACHA) also reported that since Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's visit to the island nation this past weekend, an interim measure has been agreed whereby aid agency vehicles including trucks can now travel in and out of all Menik Farms zones, not only in convoy and without agency flags.

Menik Farm is among the largest camp sites hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) resulting from the fighting between Government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Last week, the Government announced that its military operation against the Tamil separatists had ended.

OCHA also noted that it has been announced that the military will relocate out of the camps, turning over all camp management activities to civilian authorities.

The overall needs in the camps remain "acute," the Office said, with the greatest needs being health posts, doctors and medical personnel, as well as water and sanitation facilities.

Mr.Jaikumar, it clearly indicates that the only linguistic group in this universe, which has no UNITY is Tamil. Everybody in tamilnadu proclaim that they safeguard tamils in the island nation. What happen to the longest living politician Mr.Karuna ? He can fly to Delhi to get cabinet berths, despite of severe illness but not for Srilankan issue.

My friends lets open the eyes and see that LTTE like any other deadly terrorist organization has to find its end today or tomorrow. The earliest the better. We are also fighting with a dozen plus religious terrorists, separatists in eastern states and naxals, none of the us has looked or thought about how many innocent lives are being lost in the process of wiping out these bandits. We just think about some how getting rid of them and we look for only the figures of how many terrorists killed and never think if any of those are innocent civilians or not. And no Indian news paper comes out with the news saying army is killing innocent people and raping women in Kashmir. So if we are like this how can we blame Sri Lanka or for that matter any other country if they use brute force to stop terrorism. Every sovereign country does the same, they don%u2019t allow any one to come and see how the army operating. No matter its USA, Russia, China or Inida. We invited UN delegates when the things came under our control. Why didn%u2019t we invited them when things were worse in the mid 80s? And we still say at least a dozen time a year (even if no body is asking) that we will settle the Kashmir issue on our own, no foreign intervention welcomed. You are talking about Road rollers and cluster bombs do you think Indian army is picking individuals and asking each whether they are terrorists or not before shooting? Globally that%u2019s how army operates. How can you close your eyes towards the little children carrying automatic guns which they even can not carry? Do you think these little kidos will be fighting when there is a war situation? After they are shot dead by the Lankan army LTTE blamed that Lankan army is killing innocent children. And how about the hundreds of human shields with out food and water? I would say you cannot literally run a military war against a cowered like Prabhakaran by choosing and killing one at a time, which was what the whole of last two decades Lanka was doing.
