Sydney, Melbourne voted 'most unfriendly and unsafe'

Australia's bustling cities of Sydney and Melbourne have been voted as the "most unfriendly and unsafe" places to live in by over 6,000 overseas students, according to a latest survey.

The cities, which recently witnessed a spate of racial attacks on Indians were dubbed by overseas students as unsafe and inhospitable, the AAP report said.

The two were ranked the "most dangerous" and "unfriendly" places to live in, ahead of Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide, it said.

However, the survey conducted globally also found Sydney having a "big city feel" and plentiful entertainment on offer, while Melbourne was described for its bustling, multicultural vibe.

The report quoted international student recruiter IDP Education as saying that Australia's smaller cities were known for their own, very different strengths.

Perth and Adelaide's best attributes were their quietness and affordability, while Brisbane was rated highly for outdoor activities and being clean and green, it said.

IDP Education chief executive Tony Pollock said cities hoping to attract international students should play up their strengths.

"It is hard to argue with a finding that says Sydney and Melbourne have the entertainment and big city attractiveness," he said, adding "but a city with a reputation for being affordable, clean, quiet or green can be just as appealing to families overseas."

Indians are their worst enemies. Whether Australians justify their goons or not, Indians will be there in plenty to justify any atrocity on fellow Indians as deserved. All of you defending Australia need to understand that beating up people of any nationality for any reason is uacceptable in any circumstance, and countries whose population are uncouth enough to do it need to be branded as unsafe. From all the incidents that have happened to Indians in Australia, it is logical to conclude that Australia is unsafe for Indians. This is not altered by the conditions of any Indian city (Raj's justification) or Indians behaviour (Subanarayan;s defense) Even more than Australians, Indians are Indians worst enemies. This is also a sad fact.

I support Raj, i think India students should see themself first.....why only students are attack why not others there are 100 different nationalities studying in Australia. Th moment Indians sees a lady with bikini or shorts skirts they start passing comments as if they have never seen a girl in thier life...so on and so forth... Pls improve attitudes, understanding, and never feel supremacy of being Indians. No one will attack you. There are hundreds of students from Bhutan Nepal, Bagladesh, srilanka pakistan ...no one is being attack only Inidans why? see in yourself....
