Pakistan hands over list of Indian prisoners
Press Trust of India, Thursday July 2, 2009, Islamabad

The Pakistan government on Thursday handed over to India a list of 585 Indian prisoners currently being held in the country's jails.

A statement from the Foreign Office said the list of Indian prisoners, including fishermen, was handed over to an official of the Indian High Commission.

The statement did not give the number of Indian prisoners in Pakistani jails though diplomatic sources said the list included the names of 535 fishermen, 41 other prisoners and nine juvenile prisoners.

India and Pakistan are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other's custody on January 1 and July 1 every year in accordance with provisions of the Agreement on Consular Access signed by the two countries in May last year.
