A
Pakistani parliamentary panel has recommended an immediate ban on Indian TV
channels that it said are telecasting "immoral" programmes.
Begum Belium
Hasnain, chairperson of the committee on information and broadcasting of the
National Assembly or lower house of parliament, claimed several Indian
entertainment channels were involved in airing immoral programmes.
"We want
an immediate ban on them and strict action against cable operators in case they
do not follow the government's instruction," she said.
"We have
to protect our young generation from the onslaught of Indian channels,"
Hasnain told reporters.
The Pakistan
Electronic Media Regulatory Authority should also look into copyright
violations by cable operators.
"The
cable operators are telecasting pirated Indian movies and they should be
stopped and penalized," she said.
The issue of
banning Indian movies in Pakistani cinema halls was raised some months ago
after a perceived snub of the country's cricketers during the auction for the
Indian Premier League.
There is Pak's right to stop anything they believe harmful to their countrymen
And by the way this news has not been broken by Pakistani media as yet :p
