Bolt adopts a cheetah, calls it Lightning Bolt!
NDTV Correspondent, Tuesday November 3, 2009, Nairobi

Usain Bolt, the fastest man on Earth, has adopted a young orphan member of the animal kingdom's fastest sprinters.

The triple Olympic and world champion welcomed a new baby cheetah named 'Lightning Bolt' into his life.

The Jamaican sprinter's sponsorship of the three-month-old male is part of an effort to boost the conservation efforts of the Kenya Wildlife Service, as the survival of their native animals is threatened by trophy hunting, climate change and human encroachment.

The world record-holder in the 100 and 200 metres paid $13,700 to formally adopt the cub - and he will also donate $3,000 a year to care for Lightning, who will be raised at an animal orphanage in Nairobi.
