Seeded players Nigel, Manish shocked

Men's second seed Nigel D'Sa and fourth seed Manish Rawat crashed out of the Maharashtra Senior State Selection Badminton Tournament at the Matunga Gymkhana courts on Tuesday.

Greater Mumbai shuttler D'Sa went down to Nihar Tilekar of Pune 19-21 18-21 in the quarter final tie that lasted an hour.

Unseeded Amit Khadgi of Mumbai Suburban shunted out Manish Rawat of Thane 22-20 12-21 21-11 in another quarter-final.

Tilekar and Khadgi were joined in the last four by top seed Sagar Chopda of Mumbai Suburban and third seed Eshan Naqvi.

Chopda outclassed unseeded Mayank Gole of Pune 21-19 21-9 while Naqvi beat unseeded Firoz Mulani of Mumbai Suburban 21-17 21-13 in the quarters after winning a hard-fought pre-quarter final clash against unseeded Jayendra Dhole of Nagpur.

In the women's section, top seed Neha Pandit of Pune and unseeded Arundhati Pantwane of Nagpur advanced to the semis along with junior Sanyogita Ghorpade of Pune who upset Sonal More of Mumbai Suburban 21-17, 18-21, 21-12 in the quarter finals.

Arundhati ousted Ankita Malgaonkar of Thane 21-8, 21-14 while Neha got past Jui Agaskar, also of Thane, 21-19, 21-13.
