Lalit Modi pays Rs 11 cr advance tax in 2009-10

Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi paid an advance tax of Rs 11 crore during 2009-10, many times more than the amount he shelled out a year ago. The advance tax paid by Modi during 2008-09 was in lakhs, said a Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) official but specific details were not available immediately.

Ex boxing champ hangs himself in jail

IPL semis: Maharashtra top cop promises security

Maharashtra Police have said they are ready to host the semi-final matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Navi Mumbai. Describing the security arrangement ahead of the matches, Maharashtra DGP, A N Roy, said on Monday: “Though the state has been given the responsibility to host additional IPL matches at a short notice, the state police are ready with a foolproof three-tier security”.
