Women’s bill: Govt ready for a climbdown?

The Women's Reservation Bill is off to a rocky start yet again. Senior Congress sources have told NDTV that as a possible compromise formula, the quota for women could be cut from 33 per cent to just 20 per cent to increase support for the bill.

Now Lalu opposes women’s bill

RJD chief Lalu Prasad has joined SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in opposing Women's Reservation Bill in its present form, alleging that it was a "big conspiracy" to prevent the backward sections from coming up and to "finish" the regional parties.

Women’s bill unlikely in Budget session

The much-delayed Women's Reservation Bill may not come up in the Budget session of Parliament as it has to be scrutinised by a new Parliamentary panel. A Union minister, who declined to be identified, said work needed to be done on the Bill, which was before the Standing Committee on Law and Justice.
