LTTE shot fleeing civilians: George

Tamilians protest against SL offensive

There have been protests the world over against the Indian government's policies on the Tamil issue. And in London, hundreds of Tamilian activists staged protests outside the Indian High Commission shouting anti-India slogans. Later, about five agitated protesters broke into the building through the main door but have now been arrested.

Sri Lanka stops heavy fire

Karunanidhi’s ‘fast’-track politics

Karunanidhi went on a surprise fast in Chennai on Monday morning demanding a ceasefire in Sri Lanka. And the 85-year-old Tamil Nadu Chief Minister managed to wrench out an assurance from Sri Lanka on cessation of hostilities. While the DMK has said it is a victory for Tamils, the Opposition has called it a drama.

No ceasefire with LTTE: Lanka

Sri Lanka has said it has not declared a ceasefire with the LTTE, but has only announced that heavy caliber weapons will not used while rescuing thousands of civilians trapped in the northern war zone. The government said that as the security forces are now close to victory it will, in no form, leave a breather for the LTTE or its leaders by offering a truce.

Karunanidhi calls off fast

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Kraunanidhi, who was on an indefinite fast over the Tamil issue in Sri Lanka, ended his fast. Karunanidhi said he was calling off the fast after Sri Lanka has announced that the war in Tamil areas of the Island has ended. Earlier, he rejected Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's request to call off the fast, who called him and appealed to end the fast.
