Shopian case: Victims’ samples swapped?

Monday is a crucial day for the Shopian case, when the bodies of two young women alleged to have been raped and killed, will be exhumed in Jammu and Kashmir. But this comes in the midst of startling confessions from a doctor who was part of the team that conducted the second post-mortem. Agency reports suggest she has confessed to swapping the vaginal samples of the victims.

Bail for 4 cops in Shopian case

The J&K High Court has granted bail to four policemen arrested for their alleged involvement in the Shopian rape and murder case. Former Shopian SP Javed Iqbal Mattoo, deputy SP Rohit Basgotra, SHO Shafiq Ahmed and SI Gazi Karim were all arrested on July 15 for destroying evidence in the rape and murder of two women.

J&K Additional Advocate General sacked

In a fresh development in the Shopian rape and murder case, the Jammu and Kashmir government sacked the state's Additional Advocate General on Thursday evening. The development came shortly after the hearing of the bail application of two policemen in connection with the case.

Shopian case: J&K HC’s nod for CBI probe

Uproar in J&K Assembly over Shopian case

There is uproar in the J&K Assembly over the Shopian rape and murder case. The opposition parties - PDP and CPI-M – have raised the issue of DNA samples of the rape victims being fudged. Some National Conference MLAs also demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI. Mehbooba Mufti accused that people at the highest level are involved in fudging samples of the two women who were raped and murdered in Shopian.

Opposition PDP on Wednesday rejected the clean chit given by CBI to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the infamous 2006 sex scandal case and demanded a judicial probe into the issue. The demand was made by PDP members in the state assembly when Speaker M A Lone told the House that "we have received a clarification from the CBI that Omar Abdullah's name does not figure in the list of accused in the case".
