The two leaders agreed to launch a Clean Energy and Climate Change Initiative to make technologies that make our energy cleaner and affordable.

It is an old tradition, a White House dinner governed by ritual and protocol that happens to be this city’s hottest social event. But at their first state dinner on Tuesday night, President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, made sure to infuse the glittering gala with distinctive touches. They hired a new florist, Laura Dowling, who bedecked the tented outdoor dining room with locally grown, sustainably harvested magnolia branches and ivy. They selected a guest chef, Marcus Samuelsson of Aquavit in New York, a U.S. citizen who was born in Ethiopia, reared in Sweden and cooks up melting pots of flavors and cuisines.

Punish 26/11 perpetrators: PM, Obama

US President Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have strongly condemned the safe havens for terrorists in Pakistan, calling for their elimination. In a joint statement issued after their summit, the two leaders have said they are gravely concerned about the threat posed by terrorism and violent extremists emanating from India's neighborhood. Resolute and credible steps must be taken to eliminate safe havens and sanctuaries that provide shelter to terrorists and their activities. They have also said it's absolutely imperative to bring to justice the perpetrators of this terrorist attack. The two leaders also announced a counter-terrorism Cooperation Initiative to expand collaboration on counter-terrorism, information sharing, and capacity building.

Aapka swagat hai, says Obama at all-Indian dinner

It was the hottest ticket. The Obamas' first state dinner in the White House. As he welcomed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur, to his home, President Barack Obama said, “Aapka swagat hai.” The theme was Indian, in honor of the guest. The clothes people wore - Michelle Obama's dress was made by Indian designer Naeem Khan. On the Red Carpet, there were many saris - Sanjay Gupta's wife wore one. Katie Couric wore a brocade stole and a Congresswoman had turned up in a salwar kameez. The colour scheme - the purple flowers - were a tribute to the Peacock. The food showcased the best of American cooking and included fresh ingredients and herbs from the White House garden.
