Oz attacks 'racial outbursts' by anti-socials

Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi told reporters in Chennai that the attacks were actually "racial outbursts" by certain anti-social elements who robbed the students who were not staying in hostels or accommodations provided by the institutions. "They were attacked especially during late night while they were coming back from their work", he said. "There is no discrimination from the society. There are many nationalities in Australia."

Hindu priest's kin attacked in Ireland

Northern Ireland Police have beefed up security at the Indian Community Centre in North Belfast after family of a Hindu priest came under racial attack from a gang of youths. Though the family said they are frightened after the June 15 attack on them, they have decided to stay back at the centre following assurances from the police.

Aus varsity to study reasons for attacks

In the wake of a spate of assaults on Indian students in Melbourne, an Australian university on Friday announced a $16,000 study to find "motivations" behind attacks against international students. "There is an urgent need to establish the motivations behind these attacks so that the police, the government and the education providers can respond appropriately," said Linda Rosenman.

Govt assures SC over attacks on Indians

The Centre has told the Supreme Court that the Indian government has taken all possible steps to prevent Indians from being attacked in Australia and is addressing the situation will all earnestness. In an affidavit filed on Friday, the Centre also told the court that the Australian government is planning to amend their law.

On Tuesday, two more attacks were reported against Indians in Melbourne . While a student from Hyderabad was mugged, an Indian taxi driver was attacked by passengers.
