Article 377: Govt asks A-G to assist SC

Govt indecisive over gay sex

The Delhi High Court verdict legalising gay sex has put the government in a fix as it remains undecided about its stand in the Supreme Court, 10 days after a response was sought from it on the vexed issue. "No affidavit has been filed in the court as yet. It has to be seen what happens in the court," Attorney General G E Vahanvati, who will appear in the matter, said.

Chidambaram on gay rights

But Home Minister P Chidambaram says the question before the Cabinet is now essentially a constitutional matter. Gay sex verdict: SC notice to Centre

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the Centre on a petition challenging the Delhi High Court judgement legalising gay sex among consenting adults. The apex court posted the matter for hearing on July 20. The Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said that any interim order against the High Court verdict, if necessary, would be considered only after hearing the parties concerned.
