Wednesday, Jul 29, 2009
End of an era: Gayatri Devi, the elegant former princess of Cooch Behar who became the Maharani of Jaipur and was once considered among the world's most beautiful women, died in Jaipur on Wednesday. She was 90. Born on May 23, 1919 as Princess Gayatri Devi of Cooch Behar, she was the third Maharani of Jaipur through marriage to Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. To her friends and family she was more commonly known as Ayesha. (AFP)

Everyone in those days used to hunt. Get over it. She was a princess - that was in her job description. People are quick to ignore all the wonderful charity work she did. She set up various schools for girls and even one for Pakistani refugees! She was an ambassador to India we could be proud of - a refined princess rather than a squabbling politician.

Ironically, hunting the symbol of our heritage is flashed as a moment of "pride". Clearly it's been going down the generation's, the rich and famous get away with murder ..be it killing of animals or human beings.

The legend and beauty of all time passes away. She did a lot for Jaipur, but later part of her life she was disconnected from Jaipur. If she was active in her late fifties she would have been a good politician and could have changed Jaipur to her better glory, what it is today now. She wanted Jaipur to be remembered as a princely state and worked for the heritage. But alas the greedy politicians nexus with land grabbers has destroyed the city. She worked for the upliftment of women and did a lot. may her soul rest in peace. gul

Does the media or does the Indian Government bother about so many Indian Jawans getting killed in combat fighting for their lives to protect us.I am not bothered if Gayathri Devi lives or dies. It doesn't matter to the common man.

Shameful act of killing a tiger symbol of Indian heritage. This image shows these so called Rajwade were mentally slaves of the Britishers even after independence.

As I have read about her, she was a good politician, good mother, and belongs to the great Indian Royal Family with habits of killing innocent animals this photograph shows "If you are rich and famous you can kill the King of jungles" she is not a icon for anybody..

I remember her when I was a teenager. Really an era has passed away. I admired her beauty and initiatives she took. You will never be forgotten Gayatri Devi!

Rajmata Gayatri Devi was a legend in herself. She was the role model of each and every girl of the country. There can be no one like her. We pray to god to let her soul rest in peace.
