Are doctors helping Koda stay sick?
NDTV Correspondent, Saturday November 7, 2009, Ranchi

Are doctors helping Koda stay sick? Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda will not be discharged from hospital on Saturday.

The Apollo Hospital, where he has been admitted, denies that they are shielding him, insisting that he has a genuine problem. His hospital discharge slip though is ready.

Income Tax sources say Koda is not likely to be arrested right after his discharge. They are instead expected to interrogate him at his home first and arrest him only if he does not cooperate.

Meanwhile, a diary of Koda recovered from his house in Ranchi is said to have revealed his connections with a Union Cabinet minister and other politicians with details of transactions.

The Enforcement Directorate on Friday made its first arrest in the 4000-crore corruption scam, allegedly involving Koda, by nabbing the brother of a close associate.

They arrested Vikas Sinha, whose brother, Binod Sinha, was one of Koda's right-hand men, and is now missing. That apparently involved helping Koda to collect assets worth 4000 crores, mainly by serving as a front for him.  While being arrested, Vikas denied that he helped his brother launder Koda's money, "These people are forcing me to accept things I haven't done."

Also missing, along with Vikas' brother, is another key Koda associate, Sanjay Chaudhury. Like Binod Sinha, he was given till Friday to surrender, or face legal action.

Sources say Koda began building his empire when he was made Minister of Mines in the mineral-rich state of Jharkhand. He nurtured that empire with much attention when he took over as Jharkhand's chief minister in 2006, they add, based on documents recovered from his house and from offices across the country linked to Koda. Thinking big seemed to guide Koda and his men. Today, between them, they reportedly own swanky hotels, and mines in different parts of the world.

Koda's Personal Secretary was questioned on Friday. The case could see even more action on Saturday once Koda leaves hospital.

This is common pracice in India anyway. This is how rich and affluent people get away spending time in jail. Mr.Koda will be realeased on bond and the case will drag for 30-40 years and he will die by that time. Justice delayed is justice denied.

For 2010 and later, I certainly wish for the people of Andhra Pradesh a better set of politicians to choose from. I am certain we deserve better.
