Who is Chirayu Amin?
NDTV Correspondent, Monday April 26, 2010, Baroda

Amin is everything Modi was not: Diplomatic, non-controversial and someone with a clean image. The chairman of the pharmaceutical group Alembic Ltd - 100-year-old pharmaceutical firm with Rs 1200 crore turnover - has been picked for operation clean up after weeks of muck-raking clouded the game.

"One issue is the behavioural pattern of Mr Modi. One of the franchisees, the Kochi, had complained that they were being arm-twisted into withdrawing their bid," BCCI president Shashank Manohar said.

The BCCI needed someone with expertise in marketing and finance. Besides, they wanted someone low profile after the controversial Lalit Modi.

Considered a dark horse for the post, Amin was picked after Shashank Manohar declined, saying the job needed a marketing brain. The Baroda-based industrialist was considered the best choice.

Amin is currently BCCI vice-president and member of the IPL's Governing Council and President of the Baroda Cricket Association.

Amin entered cricket administration only eight years ago and unlike others in the BCCI, has stayed firmly in the background. After IPL-Gate Amin's quiet skills may be just what the BCCI needs.

He lives in Baroda with his wife Mallika, who is also a whole-time Director in Alembic. The couple has three sons and all of them have joined the family business.

Amin's hobbies include cricket and golf.
